Finally got the chance to check out the two much anticipated HBO shows last night. I'll begin with True Detective 2. Going in, I was expecting the worst as it is near impossible to match the the greatness of the first season. However, I have to admit I was impressed. Colin Farrell already seems to have nailed the similar depressed/low-life character that McConaughey nailed in the first season. Also, I was very curious to see how Vince Vaughn would do in a more serious role and I have to admit I was impressed as well. His character suits him well. Going forward I'm looking to see how Taylor Kitsch's character evolves as he had a very interesting and almost ominous first episode.
Ballers was good as well. It's too early to start comparing it to Entourage, but the similarities are obvious. It has a funny/playful vibe to it as you'd expect. The Rock fits his part well and it's cool to see cameos from real NFL players such as DeSean Jackson, Antonio Brown, and Steven Jackson. The main characters who act as NFL players are pretty funny as well. Overall, it's pretty awesome to see the show based in Miami as Marley and I are Hurricane alumni. The camera shots are done really well and the characters hit up all of the main attractions in the 305.
